Riverside Restaurant / Bed and Breakfast

Yeast Bread

Cheese and onion bread

1 1/2 lb. Strong flour
2 5ml spoons salt
1 oz butter or olive oil
1 sachet McDougalls fast action dried yeast
3/4 pint warm water
1 tsp sugar
2 oz grated cheddar cheese
1 med chopped onion

Method

  • Sieve flour, salt and yeast together.
  • Add in water and oil mixing to a smooth dough.
  • Knead on a smooth surface for 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Roll out to a rectangular shape to 1/2 inch thick.
  • Brush the surface with water
  • Sprinkle the surface with the cheese and onion.
  • Roll the bread up to enclose the cheese and onion.
  • Place onto a baking sheet, cover with a damp cloth and allow to prove until double in size.
  • Brush with beaten egg and bake in a hot oven for 30 mins until golden.
  • When tapped on the bottom, the loaf will sound hollow when fully cooked.
